A deeper understanding of favelas
All around Brazil, including Rio de Janeiro, the term favela is used to refer to a low-income neighborhood. Favelas are often associated with poverty, insecurity, and violence; however, although such problems are still present in many of these communities, there is a lot more to favelas than that — and their negative reputations should be corrected to reflect this.
